I've been interested in taking the kids to one for awhile, but didn't want to go into Austin for it. When I saw there was a class in Bastrop, I jumped on it. The classes are nature based and allow kids the freedom to learn as they play using different sensory experiences. It was around an hour and the time flew by. It starts around 18mo and depending on the class, goes up to 8. Classes seem to range between 6-10 sessions and run around $20/class. There is a sibling discount that gives 30% off the additional kids.<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
When we arrived, we were given buckets and little tong things and told to go explore and find treasures. Wyatt loved carrying his little bucket around. </div>

Josh took Ethan and Emma up on the hill and into the trees to explore. Ethan showing off a shell he found. We've been to the park a bunch of times and had never even noticed shells before so it was fun to really look around on the ground and check out our surroundings. </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
One of my favorite parts of the class was seeing the looks of wonder on their faces. They really loved finding different things in nature. </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
After about 20min, we came back to the blanket and showed off our finds. Here's Emma sharing with our teacher for the day, Erin. She was so great with them!</div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
We sang a song about nature and animals. </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Then dumped out our buckets to take inventory of what everyone found and talk about the different colors and textures.<br /></div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
The next step was making magic potions with our finds. The teacher brought some fresh herbs and spices to add more color, scent, and texture. The kids loved smelling all the different herbs. </div>

The kids had so much fun running around and finding cool things. They have since asked to make potions at home so we've gathered flowers in the yard and various spices and made our own here. Overall, it was a super fun and interactive class for them. We didn't sign up at the time because the hours/days didn't work for us, but I'd be interested in doing it in the future if we can make the time slot and our budget allows. It is on the higher end for us, which is always a bit of an issue with 3 kids though.<br /><br />Here's a link to the leader, Erin, that we had. https://www.tinkergarten.com/leaders/erin.holley I'm not seeing the Bastrop location on the site right now, but keep an eye out in case it opens up for Fall. </div>

So...yeah...this post is super delayed. We finally finished Wyatt's room back in January after he was already a year. Whoops. Sorry 3rd child, a move definitely delayed your nursery completion. Some of the things we had purchased for his old room in Ga didn't quite fit in the new room so we had to move things around a bit. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: start;">Anyway, on to the room. I couldn't find any dinosaur fabric I loved so I decided to do a mix of navy, bright green, and dark grey and accent with dinosaurs. My mom, as usual, made the amazing bedding. I love how the mix of colors and prints turned out. After I'd already purchased the fabric, I found the most amazing curtains that could not have been more perfect. I still can't believe I managed to find dinosaur curtains in the exact colors I'd chosen. Thank you Home Goods! They make such a fun statement in the room. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
View coming into the room. The wood dinosaurs on the right wall are from Hobby Lobby. I originally planned to paint the orange to match, but decided I liked the pop of orange. How perfect are those curtains though?! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Wall to the left of the door. The LOVE canvas was made during our gender reveal. I taped off the letters and then we had squirt guns filled with paint to squirt at it to reveal the gender. So fun! Dino heads and lamp are from Target. I added blue ribbon trim to the lamp shade because it was a bit too boring for me. Wall decor and little dinos are a mix of Target, Home Goods, and Hobby Lobby. </div>

My mom made another set of slipcovers for the glider and the accent pillows in the room. The green table was originally pink in Emma's nursery and we just spray painted it.</div>

I got the decal from <a href="https://www.walldecalworld.com/product/room/kids-bedroom/dinosaur-hugs-wall-decal">Wall Decal World</a>. It was only 1 color online and no name, but they were really great to work with on customizing it for me. I think it was only around $10 more to add the name and change it to 3 colors. This sweet boy has the biggest hugs so it ended up being perfect for him. </div>

And that's it! Nurseries are by far my favorite rooms. They're so much fun and I love each theme our kiddos had. He loves pointing at all the dinosaurs hanging around. The furniture was almost all re-used from the other kiddos so we didn't spend too much on this room. </div>

<span style="font-size: 12pt;">RC’s playhouse review for local friends. </span></div>
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; font-size: 12px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; min-height: 13.8px;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt;"></span><br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; font-size: 12px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt;">We decided to check out RC’s on Friday since it was half off during their soft opening. We met up with new friends so the kids could all play together. They ended up playing amazingly well for over 3 hours! There were almost no fights and the ones that happened were resolved quickly and easily. That’s like unheard of with a bunch of kids under 5 in a new place. 😳 </span></div>
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; font-size: 12px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; min-height: 13.8px;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt;"></span><br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; font-size: 12px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt;"><b>Pros</b>: </span></div>
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; font-size: 12px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; min-height: 13.8px;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt;"></span><br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; font-size: 12px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt;"><b>Location</b>. It’s maybe 5min away from us so super easy to get to. We’re on the outskirts so it will be closer to 10-15min for those in town or towards cedar creek. </span></div>
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; font-size: 12px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; min-height: 13.8px;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt;"></span><br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; font-size: 12px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt;"><b>Indoor</b>. While we LOVE being outside, it’s nice to have an option for rainy days. It’s also going to be too hot to play outside before we know it and this will be perfect for that. We have memberships to the zoo and dinosaur park, but won’t be able to use those much during the summer. </span></div>
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; font-size: 12px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; min-height: 13.8px;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt;"></span><br /></div>
<br />
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; font-size: 12px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt;"><b>Variety</b>. There’s a infant/young toddler area. There’s a smaller space for younger kids or less adventurous kiddos who want to play without going through the large tunnels. There’s a huge structure with different areas to start and end. The zip line was a huge hit. Then there’s more of a quiet area. Table and chairs with puzzles and building toys (magnatiles I think). The older kiddos rotated nicely between all the areas taking breaks to build together after chasing each other around</span><br />

<span style="font-size: 12pt;"><b>Relaxation</b>: yes...you read that right. I got to sit and mostly relax! This is a great place to take your kids and be able to chat with other mamas. We almost didn’t know what to do with ourselves. We had to occasionally help a kid or tell them to stop something, but for the most part, we did nothing. Amazing right?! I even showed off a quick Color Street application. Lol<br /><br />*Update* We went back again for their grand opening since it was free. I, again, got to relax with another mom! I even was able to do my nails while they played. So nice! I did the kiddo's nails too. How cute are our matching mermaid print nails?! And my friend has on Broadway Glimmer. (Join my FB page Crystal's Cute-icles for more info on our adorable nails)</span><br />

<div style="font-family: Helvetica; font-size: 12px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt;"><b>WiFi</b>: if you need to get some work done while the kids play, this is the place to do it! Bring your laptop and let the kids go wild. </span></div>
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; font-size: 12px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; font-size: 12px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt;"><b>Snacks</b>: I like that we can bring our own snacks (and we even joked about pizza delivery). There’s also some small snacks available for purchase. </span></div>
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; font-size: 12px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; font-size: 12px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt;"><b>Tired kids</b>: Emma took a nap for once! That almost never happens. All the kids slept in a bit the next day. </span></div>
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; font-size: 12px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal;">
<b>Cons:</b></div>
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal;">
<b>Size.</b> While they do a great job of making the most out of their space, it’s on the smaller end of all the play spaces we’ve been to over the years. Not bad when there’s only a couple families, but if they’re busy, I think it will feel really crowded quickly. </div>
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal;">
<b>Seating:</b> this is mostly due to space. Not a ton of seating for grown ups. Again, fine when slow, but when busy, people will be sitting on the floor. Which really doesn't bother me much, but some might not be fans. If I remember right, there's 2 small tables with chairs, a couch, and a loveseat?</div>
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal;">
<b>Price.</b> This is the biggest con for us. It’s $9/child. Times that by 3 kids and we’re at $27 a visit. They do have monthly and annual memberships, but even at their reduced grand opening prices, they’re still really high. $75/month for family of 3 or $450/year for family of 3. Even with $100 off of the annual membership this month, it’s a huge investment. This price point won’t be feasible for many families, especially those with single income households. </div>
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal;">
Compared to the many similar facilities we’ve been to in the last 5 years, across multiple states, the cost was shocking. For the space and location, I’d expect closer to $5/child. For comparison, here are some membership prices for other Austin area places we’ve gone or plan to go. Pricing will be based on my family cost (me and 3 kids since Josh is usually working when we do activities) to keep it even. </div>
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal;">
RC’s playhouse: $450/yr. $350/yr if purchased on April</div>
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal;">
Dinosaur Park: $75/year. Wyatt is still free here otherwise it would be $100/yr</div>
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal;">
Capital of Texas zoo: $99/yr </div>
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal;">
Thinkery: $99/yr</div>
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal;">
McKenna Children’s Museum: $150/yr </div>
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal;">
Mt Playmore: doesn’t appear to have annual price. Looks to be $45/mo for 3 kids so? This one is more expensive, but it’s also much larger. This is also the most similar concept to RC's.<br /><br />*Update* I just saw they lowered their pricing for 12-23mo to $5/child. So, that puts us at $23/child per visit. I'm assuming membership pricing is the same since it wasn't mentioned. </div>
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal;">
<b>Final thoughts</b>: Overall, this place is a great addition to the area. For as many families as we have out here with small kids, there are not many places to play indoors. Anything that can keep my 3 happily playing for close to 4 hours wins a prize in my book. I’m still in shock that they played so good for so long. Unfortunately, I’m not sure we can find room in our budget for more than the occasional trip and even that will be hard to justify. If it were closer to $150-$200/yr I think it would be more manageable for families. The owners and staff are all super friendly and great with the kids. </div>
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal;">
My kids are still talking about it and want to go back so that’s always a good sign. Ethan said he wanted to stay FOR.EV.ER, asks nonstop for a membership, and said he wants to go everyday, twice a day. Lol Every time we leave the house they ask if we're going to the fun play place. </div>
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal;">
Here's a few pics I snapped while they played. Look at those big smiles!<br />

</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
For the past 4 months, I have slowly KonMari-ing my belongings. Which means I have a lot of excess I'm getting rid of. While doing my makeup, I thought of how wasteful it was to just throw it all away. That's when I remembered that I pinned <a href="http://ilovetocook.org/faux-makeup-for-your-kiddos/">this cute idea</a> about a year ago. My toddler loves to get into everyone's makeup bag and pull out everything while making a huge mess. So, I decided to make her a makeup bag of her own.<br /><br />I have a ridiculous amount of cute makeup bags courtesy of an old IPSY subscription. I also had a few makeup brushes from samples that didn't work for me. Everything used was something I already had and planned to discard.<br /><br />First, I took a few old eyeshadows out of my discard pile. I used a nail file to scrape out the shadow and used a makeup remover cloth to get any small bits left.<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVKq4j_pz0EJ2mxaJNUqpBeVzffZbx1nGGPJdIyGudoQgVhVoAp3IwT6XBnd6zk7ae3Fy9ro7KXJS-EVIHwKwv0hfKRwSkxOk8HWOc30I03kOY00MluI4RCMtA9lhGOaYgiO3rYIVnLD9C/s1600/IMG_0552.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVKq4j_pz0EJ2mxaJNUqpBeVzffZbx1nGGPJdIyGudoQgVhVoAp3IwT6XBnd6zk7ae3Fy9ro7KXJS-EVIHwKwv0hfKRwSkxOk8HWOc30I03kOY00MluI4RCMtA9lhGOaYgiO3rYIVnLD9C/s640/IMG_0552.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Then, I picked some colors from my nail polish discard pile. I ended up swapping the bright pink for 2 others since I couldn't get the cap off. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUZiS5QJSv65ze2OOjGJ9OVlaliZdP4t4MxmFqINwxjE-_IZob4AXdf2EhfoL7QEST3v4AtHFIHwHJA1yGzRtPyAcBWdqeSdhDyxzaNQzwGEAP_avbe9NJdTHsIxKAjP5aINBqkTbQZMw0/s1600/IMG_0555.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUZiS5QJSv65ze2OOjGJ9OVlaliZdP4t4MxmFqINwxjE-_IZob4AXdf2EhfoL7QEST3v4AtHFIHwHJA1yGzRtPyAcBWdqeSdhDyxzaNQzwGEAP_avbe9NJdTHsIxKAjP5aINBqkTbQZMw0/s640/IMG_0555.JPG" width="640" /></a><br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Then, simply pour the nail polish into the empty pots. For some I used 2 colors mixed to get the color I wanted. I left them open in front of a fan on low overnight to dry. They take awhile to dry since it's a thick coat of polish. She ended up with a foundation, blush, sparkly lipgloss, and 2 eyeshadows.<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsEtqiFD8t2QLGBch6DnfN2vh8Pr95U5Gngo4GtOwzoWrCNGp31Ic3bM1Kvyw-0nsvV_CxbaiaP2UwtdOxHdA499UuUTpOHYFD2DVgSRTdHaTYShIVrCBJ-GZgbyhjcAbVUb7wS89tqEHv/s1600/FullSizeRender.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsEtqiFD8t2QLGBch6DnfN2vh8Pr95U5Gngo4GtOwzoWrCNGp31Ic3bM1Kvyw-0nsvV_CxbaiaP2UwtdOxHdA499UuUTpOHYFD2DVgSRTdHaTYShIVrCBJ-GZgbyhjcAbVUb7wS89tqEHv/s640/FullSizeRender.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I gave it to her this morning and she LOVED it. She immediately asked for me to open them and went to putting on her makeup. She sees me, her aunts, and her Mimi put it on all the time so she loved getting to feel like one of the girls.<br /><br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgaHjn_fttGFN1SOxzoejxTLmV4FN1LojMc8mmMmovS3sfk4glcFuq49GPw4081IOfCfXr9eFr_WNy5SD7YmEx2vmJCS1GnDQ-FKo3xXaN5EobQe7XywYfpU3_CzZXiD10b8T63zh5t9oQP/s1600/IMG_0616.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgaHjn_fttGFN1SOxzoejxTLmV4FN1LojMc8mmMmovS3sfk4glcFuq49GPw4081IOfCfXr9eFr_WNy5SD7YmEx2vmJCS1GnDQ-FKo3xXaN5EobQe7XywYfpU3_CzZXiD10b8T63zh5t9oQP/s640/IMG_0616.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
She ended up playing with them almost all day and night. Everyone that was near her got a makeover. Puppies, stuffed animals, and big brother included. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYuFQvSHp9nbsXod53uLK-8ppZAz7YvtjThqKHtYPXKysqzOt2613OuLk1jRZzM69wLSLudWhAzscsvpmsOHwR3TFVhQxQd-FFZeqtjM-YLYjuAGa2llWMSysPlDFenaDPJFbi1yJX4njL/s1600/IMG_0670.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYuFQvSHp9nbsXod53uLK-8ppZAz7YvtjThqKHtYPXKysqzOt2613OuLk1jRZzM69wLSLudWhAzscsvpmsOHwR3TFVhQxQd-FFZeqtjM-YLYjuAGa2llWMSysPlDFenaDPJFbi1yJX4njL/s640/IMG_0670.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So if you have any old makeup products, this is a super quick, easy, and free project to throw together. It only took me about 10 min to do (minus dry time) and has already provided hours of fun for my sweet girl. </div>

Last night, he asked to sleep in his chair instead of the crib. We decided to give it a go and put the gate up at he stairway. Well, this morning I woke up to some sweet brotherly love.<div><br></div><div>Emma must have woke him up crying. He went running into her room and I heard him saying "hiii Emma" through the monitor. He started talking to her and trying to comfort her (most likely putting his hand through the slats and patting her on the head like he does).</div><div><br></div><div>She started crying harder and I was making my way upstairs when I hear him run to the gate and yell down to us. "HEY! HEY! Baby crying!" Hahaha. Then when he sees me, he runs back to Emma and says, "it's ok baby" "it's ok sweetheart" like he hears me say to her.</div><div><br></div><div>Seriously the cutest. Sure, he's the toddler brother who hurts her sometimes (usually on accident since he's so not gentle), but he's also a total sweetheart who adores his baby sister. He loves to protect her and snuggle with her. </div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRtzmrzEOYZUcQPEu2n56j8Qb8Lexln30MTpqCvGuuihuNwJh7KnBMtJOYjykhrNsLfniHsc3iwAkxYENETZoiLR_cAh7zVE9d7s9WJkx1B-GxQKggqpRaGU-xf-jGYIINDh58lL0QRhfD/s640/blogger-image--1778474609.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRtzmrzEOYZUcQPEu2n56j8Qb8Lexln30MTpqCvGuuihuNwJh7KnBMtJOYjykhrNsLfniHsc3iwAkxYENETZoiLR_cAh7zVE9d7s9WJkx1B-GxQKggqpRaGU-xf-jGYIINDh58lL0QRhfD/s640/blogger-image--1778474609.jpg"></a></div>Here my little cowboy pushing her and having to pause to kiss the top of her little head. <3 *swoon* </div>teetle81http://www.blogger.com/profile/00508855760153691316noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5670105810045342582.post-35724947338621000042015-03-26T00:19:00.001-05:002015-03-26T00:20:01.412-05:00Pee Wee Rebuild Part 1<div class="MsoNormal">
Middle of the day texts from Josh are often very random. One day I got a text with a Craigslist link asking “Can I buy these for Ethan”. It’s a link to 2 dirt bikes. Ethan just turned 2, no idea why he needs even 1 dirt bike, let alone 2. But, they were a great price and I figured they’ll take some time to even be running so why not let them have some fun working in the garage. Josh thought it would be fun to track their progress, so here's part 1.<br />
<br />
Week 1</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br />
So, Josh and Ethan went out that night and picked up two Yamaha PW50
dirtbikes. These are the smallest dirt
bikes made, and are known as “PeeWees”.
The bikes don’t run, but are mostly complete at least, and were
advertised as needing minor things such as a carb rebuild. Ethan hopped on one immediately while Josh
was talking to the seller and wouldn’t get off them as they were being loaded
on the truck. He “vrooomed” the entire
time for onlookers as Josh tied them down. It’s like he knew they were for him.

Over the next few days, the bikes were cleaned and
examined. A power washer was borrowed
(and later broke-oh the joys of working in the garage), fuel tanks drained and
cleaned, carbs cleaned, etc. One bike is
going to be the “parts bike” and the other bike is going to be rebuilt. The question was which one? Before any more time was dumped into trying
to get them to run, Josh did a compression test on both of them. This determines if the inside of the motor
has enough pressure to run. (Or
something??)</div>

for the bike. Then take frame, exhaust,
bars, wheels, and other small parts to powder-coater. As it sits, it looks more like a tetanus
delivery machine than a dirt bike. Any
parts that can’t be powder-coated (nothing with bushings/seals since the parts
go into an oven), will have to be sanded down and spray painted at home. </div>

Ethan loves farm animals so I thought this would be a lot of fun for him. We've been there once <a href="http://sweetteetle.blogspot.com/2014/04/fun-on-farm.html">before</a> for a field trip and enjoyed it. Farm camp is for ages 2-12 for about 2-3 hours depending on the age group. It's $25/child so not too bad for something different to do.<br />
<br />
Little guy was a bit overwhelmed at first. It always takes him a little while to warm up to things. There were a lot of kids and he was probably the youngest since he just hit the 2 yr cutoff.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNO9FPkPtF79FVJ8JniFpwKZdYrSusx1re7u_K_QOTHHqrNeFycspfuQ8xR6CtAwmgZAwBky3YJOGLLysUQ4uKB8dseTUHGxs6rCMykkqgIP9Kmg1pjBnimUdizcKS0_KW62JdqbvPmQcs/s1600/FullSizeRender+(13).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNO9FPkPtF79FVJ8JniFpwKZdYrSusx1re7u_K_QOTHHqrNeFycspfuQ8xR6CtAwmgZAwBky3YJOGLLysUQ4uKB8dseTUHGxs6rCMykkqgIP9Kmg1pjBnimUdizcKS0_KW62JdqbvPmQcs/s1600/FullSizeRender+(13).jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
After decorating his bucket, our first activity was feeding the fish and learning about how seeds grow. Everyone got to plant some green bean seeds which Ethan loved because it involved tools and dirt.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8tfF9rG0GTWrQT3sjEGtNGc5RR_GesGHnnlMvXVvSY0R2qguT_wjQNdcJq8nl0Ls_aK1DHvGw3nZSlhh1_leslV5e9AknpmngXO8YClFIvM2-CaJySXu0hKhPW-5RaM6ZrWVrG-PprOM0/s1600/FullSizeRender+(14).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8tfF9rG0GTWrQT3sjEGtNGc5RR_GesGHnnlMvXVvSY0R2qguT_wjQNdcJq8nl0Ls_aK1DHvGw3nZSlhh1_leslV5e9AknpmngXO8YClFIvM2-CaJySXu0hKhPW-5RaM6ZrWVrG-PprOM0/s1600/FullSizeRender+(14).jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Next stop was learning how they milk the goats. My silly guy with a bucket on his head ready to catch the milk. His little hands holding the cup are just adorable.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSpuBAy3pZZOVc6ADytqPAGQmGe8HrjEFCIHUBw_3mGibnc-7O5MmFrPr15E_3nHehhn94TIodfxbp7WXw40jdoRVC7Zxz2ZIklHABFP8dKOQ1gYNH6sHP9wliCdfKcDiiT-APQFHuXsMe/s1600/FullSizeRender+(16).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSpuBAy3pZZOVc6ADytqPAGQmGe8HrjEFCIHUBw_3mGibnc-7O5MmFrPr15E_3nHehhn94TIodfxbp7WXw40jdoRVC7Zxz2ZIklHABFP8dKOQ1gYNH6sHP9wliCdfKcDiiT-APQFHuXsMe/s1600/FullSizeRender+(16).jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
While in the milking room, Emma decided she was hungry. It's like she knew the room was all about milk. I was feeding her when they offered to let the parents try milking so I figured, why not try to milk a cow while nursing a baby?! haha Luckily one of the other moms thought to take a picture for me since it's not every day I breastfeed while milking an animal. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyEM3xABcJGy5CxrRHT2uBgqTzUa9M90uenhqcsx4czO2tWKjMmg4VsiQJjqhHHqZ5shu9h8ceECcUsSA7kAXy1btyoTJUMzpvoedtxYm0D-Z2b8nzxYSaC9TtdOnftYCG6_Mn5lKTvTgT/s1600/IMG_6533.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyEM3xABcJGy5CxrRHT2uBgqTzUa9M90uenhqcsx4czO2tWKjMmg4VsiQJjqhHHqZ5shu9h8ceECcUsSA7kAXy1btyoTJUMzpvoedtxYm0D-Z2b8nzxYSaC9TtdOnftYCG6_Mn5lKTvTgT/s1600/IMG_6533.JPG" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Of course we had to try some goat's milk after that. Ethan loved it. He wouldn't share. Then when he finished his, he took mine. I love that he is so willing to try different food most of the time. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1SzMNuqif5P6zVG7aYgk1CcMl9ueXCnl6ocMoPIEBAkAS7-y1vVMmDTW5I7w8Hc2_EIpM8iLoqAUi0v1wTwXVAUB4quwAClEkCI37S9vUTQFh1nX92V7Ey9xcdg3gA73HqBvjk_ZEE94z/s1600/FullSizeRender+(17).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1SzMNuqif5P6zVG7aYgk1CcMl9ueXCnl6ocMoPIEBAkAS7-y1vVMmDTW5I7w8Hc2_EIpM8iLoqAUi0v1wTwXVAUB4quwAClEkCI37S9vUTQFh1nX92V7Ey9xcdg3gA73HqBvjk_ZEE94z/s1600/FullSizeRender+(17).jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Then we went and saw the pigs and horses, pet the baby goats, fed the adult goats, and got to go collect an egg from the chicken coop. Ethan threw his egg like a crazy toddler, but luckily it didn't break. We also had a small snack.<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLD8H8IzRbDw6ekTX2g5q_Hyg1WqfvdF0WLKXbsFWZy8Cd3vzmYN-HjPA-a6DqJw3KnGeeTIL1KYetkP_5sz_NxZ3uOUI_vK7zMc1Odvcp-N_ES8qVKxnIodmVn__THmiuMwP7W418ib65/s1600/IMG_6728.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLD8H8IzRbDw6ekTX2g5q_Hyg1WqfvdF0WLKXbsFWZy8Cd3vzmYN-HjPA-a6DqJw3KnGeeTIL1KYetkP_5sz_NxZ3uOUI_vK7zMc1Odvcp-N_ES8qVKxnIodmVn__THmiuMwP7W418ib65/s1600/IMG_6728.JPG" height="640" width="426" /></a><br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Sweet Emma fell asleep about the time we were feeding the goats. This is one of the huge reasons I love babywearing. I was able to enjoy the farm with my toddler while she went from my back, to nursing, to asleep on my chest. With how muddy it was, a stroller would have been a huge pain to push and it would have gotten filthy. And it would have made keeping up with Ethan difficult. Since there was a risk of it getting dirty, I skipped the wraps and light colored carriers and used the Boba 3G. This is my fave option for wearing if I'll be moving a lot and wearing for awhile. I wore her comfortably for a little over 2 hours with lots of bending down. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgoDnjiDgbIvDBmubv3hqkFZNtQn9ous85wksQCo4o6EcXWTxIU9ykbRFXSZDO6DrdIZyxtTWuJfllUJULv8SR493Z1Z_rSohHWsuhzEX4-cwDEb-puwJmf9QZSo3ewLl1OOeYZp-BZ4Lle/s1600/IMG_6569.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgoDnjiDgbIvDBmubv3hqkFZNtQn9ous85wksQCo4o6EcXWTxIU9ykbRFXSZDO6DrdIZyxtTWuJfllUJULv8SR493Z1Z_rSohHWsuhzEX4-cwDEb-puwJmf9QZSo3ewLl1OOeYZp-BZ4Lle/s1600/IMG_6569.JPG" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Because of the rain this week, the farm was extra muddy. One of Ethan's favorite things was jumping in puddles and stomping in the mud. From the moment we got out of the car until I took off his boots, he was looking for puddles. It was so much fun to be like a kid and not care about getting dirty. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIjWz0NzIUsYxbEZr154R-FjWW0NssB1Prn5XkYZYun9P7zunc3m6Dh8ebNb8g2hHLVw-1mMWG7dP8nJKnkGXT6JzTKBQM2nCqdPPjvx5DjYWpOS2A9KV31TTUoMqnAx9MMMf0m-vJG5mv/s1600/FullSizeRender+(15).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIjWz0NzIUsYxbEZr154R-FjWW0NssB1Prn5XkYZYun9P7zunc3m6Dh8ebNb8g2hHLVw-1mMWG7dP8nJKnkGXT6JzTKBQM2nCqdPPjvx5DjYWpOS2A9KV31TTUoMqnAx9MMMf0m-vJG5mv/s1600/FullSizeRender+(15).jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
All in all, it was a great morning. They have a bunch of slots still available and I'd definitely recommend it. Ethan was tired and had a great nap when we got home which meant I actually got a break to do a yoga video. We had so much fun splashing around and making a mess. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Bonus: The farm also has a little store where everything is local. I got some goat's milk since Ethan liked it and some other goodies. We had the cranberry bread and dried fruit for afternoon snacks and I'm thinking tomorrow we'll have the tamales for an easy dinner.<br /></div>

It's a great way to get things done around the house and run errands while keeping the little one close and happy. I've always known it makes things easier and keeps the babies happy. But until today, I didn't realize just how much it makes a difference for me and keeps me a calm mama who feels in control.<br /><br />I had a drs appt today so I had to figure out where to put the kiddos during the appt since I couldn't exactly wear them when they're doing my checkup. We don't have a double stroller since our single stroller is almost never used anyway. With just one kiddo, it was always easy, use the stroller. Well, with 2 under 2, I felt so stuck because Emma can't sit up yet and Ethan won't sit still for that long. I ended up putting Emma in her carseat snapped into the stroller and wore Ethan in since it was a bit of a walk and on the 5th floor. Then once I got inside, I swapped him to the stroller and kept her in the carseat on the ground. It worked ok, but it was such a pain pushing the stroller around and carrying her seat and then trying to fit them both in the room with me.<br /><br />I totally felt like that mom that doesn't have her Sh!t together. lol I was a frazzled mess trying to keep them both happy and distracted. I had to take Emma in and out of her carseat a few times so she could nurse. Yup, another HUGE benefit to wearing means I can feed her while I do what I need to. I hated feeling like this mom who had no idea how to keep things together. Both kiddos were cranky and on the verge of meltdowns.<br /><br />To make up for it, I decided to try tandem babywearing for the first time. Ahh, it felt so much better to have my kiddos close to me and I had my hands free to do whatever I needed. No needing to take her out of the seat, no needing to distract him with toys, no pushing a stroller while carrying a carseat. Just me and my babies nice and relaxed. We took a little walk through the neighborhood pointing out all the things we saw along the way and I finally felt calm again. <div>

My husband and son love PB. This is currently our PB collection in the pantry. Needless to say, we're always up for trying more.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
See that orange one?! Yeah, that's the new Reese's chocolate peanut butter. It's just as amazing as it sounds. It's like a blended up Reese's cup. Josh was like "Why did it take so long for them to make this?" </div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The boys like to just eat it right out of the jar with a spoon and already devoured a good chunk of it. Josh actually went straight for it the day after when he got home from work. lol I usually have PB in a tortilla with banana and honey, but didn't think that would work for this. Instead, I added some sweetened coconut and a warm tortilla. It was melty, sweet, chocolately goodness. </div>

We'll definitely be buying this again. Hubby already said he needs a jar to take with him when he goes overseas. So glad we got to try this from Influenster.</div>

My days usually consist of trying to stop tantrums in their tracks now. Which basically means tricking him into thinking he's helping or doing things his way.<br /><br />Some of the ways I've outsmarted him this week include: <div>
<br /></div>
<div>
He kept wanting Josh's chips at lunch. But I realized when I actually tried to give him one, not in the bag, he had no interest. So, clearly the allure was eating out of a bag. I took his sandwich that he wouldn't touch and tore it into pieces. I put it in the bag and gave it to him. He was then excited to eat his sandwich. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhF_HA0MtapE4s4CHviN95GZdXk2F2qaYKDJAo7F25sslbpE7fcPi1_8M1eL01Asnc0gDGj97qnCYYFG55IjWrTCaTKaXzyEkf8s51QGqr4jX6hDEqLQDbqN9TscUTpa8xSmuGGBvglkvZJ/s1600/FullSizeRender+(9).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhF_HA0MtapE4s4CHviN95GZdXk2F2qaYKDJAo7F25sslbpE7fcPi1_8M1eL01Asnc0gDGj97qnCYYFG55IjWrTCaTKaXzyEkf8s51QGqr4jX6hDEqLQDbqN9TscUTpa8xSmuGGBvglkvZJ/s1600/FullSizeRender+(9).jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
His new thing when getting to the car has been to try to run off while I'm carrying Emma or trying to put her carseat in. I started telling him her carseat was soo heavy and asked him to help me carry it. He loves being a big brother so this worked perfectly. He now holds onto the carrier all the way to the car and waits at the door to make sure she's clicked in all the way. No more chasing him or yelling for him to stop. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJ5mrZLXZq_BOaPeIsbLI1VPBSrGtbdkfRUBRNx41X7dGdn4LbbSuVjDXkEjywkgwIi-46XvuAb_Nqrv6ssdcv_XZnl8WzRxtg6X1Jz9bYu2BCiXVq4BzUijzwBrVz1kmuzBGee-oNW5pj/s1600/FullSizeRender+(10).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJ5mrZLXZq_BOaPeIsbLI1VPBSrGtbdkfRUBRNx41X7dGdn4LbbSuVjDXkEjywkgwIi-46XvuAb_Nqrv6ssdcv_XZnl8WzRxtg6X1Jz9bYu2BCiXVq4BzUijzwBrVz1kmuzBGee-oNW5pj/s1600/FullSizeRender+(10).jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I rarely go to Starbucks, but when I do, Ethan always wants my drink. Pretty much anything we're drinking, he wants really. So, I started asking for a cup of water with ice from them and I tell him it's his special drink. He's happy to have a grown up drink and he doesn't get mad that I won't share my coffee. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYlvBFx1CHofyYS5THjkiGKLYwvRN3djyhw5twFYouswsYjg5hTgjOX4l_i-Rk77VoC0LUSlR_a_bGX8JtOD-z7EVxc7ku1uIUOyQucz4ajf5SKvS2q6X1rnwAhUYC3-W5GuyTVAhTxK7k/s1600/FullSizeRender+(11).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYlvBFx1CHofyYS5THjkiGKLYwvRN3djyhw5twFYouswsYjg5hTgjOX4l_i-Rk77VoC0LUSlR_a_bGX8JtOD-z7EVxc7ku1uIUOyQucz4ajf5SKvS2q6X1rnwAhUYC3-W5GuyTVAhTxK7k/s1600/FullSizeRender+(11).jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Anytime he starts to get fussy while shopping now, I ask him to help. He loves to feel like he's doing something to help out. I'll ask him to help me find things from the cart sometimes. Other times, I let him get out and get items off the shelf and put them in the cart. He loves that best since then he can also help push the cart. Sure, grocery shopping takes a little more time, but there's no tantrums so it's more enjoyable. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtunWBx1ceqU99t10T_rElC9yF9iX05wex2_bwPBP9BVk13YIWDgHTlz9D6OZ7wXmA0ndjbOnq22ALKzRYM4t9D6Ydgr73I5XzdBuEgIl1FvHI90475qGFiEunQyYbdd0kEjsXWWQcmNKQ/s1600/FullSizeRender+(12).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtunWBx1ceqU99t10T_rElC9yF9iX05wex2_bwPBP9BVk13YIWDgHTlz9D6OZ7wXmA0ndjbOnq22ALKzRYM4t9D6Ydgr73I5XzdBuEgIl1FvHI90475qGFiEunQyYbdd0kEjsXWWQcmNKQ/s1600/FullSizeRender+(12).jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
He's gotten a bit more picky with eating. Some days he'll eat great, other days not so much. I've found he eats things that he helped pick out at the store better than things I just throw in without him seeing. I let him grab the apples and bananas and give him a choice between other items.<br /><br />I also let him help make the food when I can. I'll set him up on the counter and have him sprinkle cheese in or I'll give him the measuring cup of spices to toss in. He loves eating veggies right as I'm cutting them up now. He'll stand there waiting to get some freshly diced peppers or tomatoes. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Anyone else have tips for how to outsmart their toddler? I'm sure I'll need more ideas since this kid keeps me on my toes. </div>

</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Ethan's big Christmas present from us is going to be a table and chairs. I was checking Amazon and most were $100+. Then I remembered seeing a set at Ikea last time we were there so we made a trip out. We picked up the popular Latt table. Only problem, it's pretty boring on it's own. But for only $20, I figured we could make it more fun.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Before: simple, but plain table</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgI_NNzl1PXLaVUAYBttm9KsSiSPTgPAz00kwpN2YRaXVqfXuN8UK0YrJMJ9nFo5dgGKCCASHpJeuqgtVCfp3lzMDHdeDj8XS6bOHZhRoDpgrwVRd_sx3c4xjgmnHe3gugf6roF89LWxs8g/s1600/latt.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgI_NNzl1PXLaVUAYBttm9KsSiSPTgPAz00kwpN2YRaXVqfXuN8UK0YrJMJ9nFo5dgGKCCASHpJeuqgtVCfp3lzMDHdeDj8XS6bOHZhRoDpgrwVRd_sx3c4xjgmnHe3gugf6roF89LWxs8g/s1600/latt.JPG" height="640" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I headed off to Pinterest for some ideas. We still had green paint leftover from the <a href="http://sweetteetle.blogspot.com/2013_10_01_archive.html">bookshelf</a> Josh made so we figured we'd just use that. I decided to stick with the <a href="http://sweetteetle.blogspot.com/2013/02/nursery-tour.html">robot theme</a> since Ethan is still a big robot fan.<br />
<br />
I used the seat bottom to trace the fabric and then cut it out. I didn't worry too much about perfect lines since the ends would be covered when they slide into the wood. We used spray adhesive to attach the fabric to the top. A lot of people mentioned it didn't fit well with the fabric or they had to cut it down, but it fit fine for us since we didn't fold the fabric over the edge.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimWf8Fjhjg4dkVxyWMa_4YJi_vQq4mvA3e1sS1O9tdZzZgWDs7NPXSbZVWcqCoInijWHYQHAxgnZP-isgSacXIlDHY-EBG-38Fh4QKFIlCqEGgBZzg3D4lytyTV24Nvh5zdONs7OIm_w3y/s1600/1678.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimWf8Fjhjg4dkVxyWMa_4YJi_vQq4mvA3e1sS1O9tdZzZgWDs7NPXSbZVWcqCoInijWHYQHAxgnZP-isgSacXIlDHY-EBG-38Fh4QKFIlCqEGgBZzg3D4lytyTV24Nvh5zdONs7OIm_w3y/s1600/1678.JPG" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
We decided to combine a few different ideas we saw. We did a chalkboard table top using the Rustoleum spray paint. Then we added plexiglass on top of the table top and the seat tops (easy to remove). This way if he eats or does other crafts, the chalkboard doesn't get ruined and it's easy to wipe clean. It will also keep the fabric in better condition on the chairs. Bonus: He can use dry erase crayons/markers on the plexi for another work surface.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
After: bright colors and chalkboard paint</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCXhZll1j6DQCbRh1rbbvH9j9OwDcg9kaNxPWz8Rf7Zs6ADH3UmANjY5Rv5VeHCbHT-S8_LiSHsy7uhXtLnp9mC6yQhuKCXRelezfdYynI4qJe8MpnY9Dl-P1tPd3cWZOeZOMt2bM0rItU/s1600/IMG_9742.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCXhZll1j6DQCbRh1rbbvH9j9OwDcg9kaNxPWz8Rf7Zs6ADH3UmANjY5Rv5VeHCbHT-S8_LiSHsy7uhXtLnp9mC6yQhuKCXRelezfdYynI4qJe8MpnY9Dl-P1tPd3cWZOeZOMt2bM0rItU/s1600/IMG_9742.JPG" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: start;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: start;">The bar and orange/green buckets were from Ikea also. They'll hold his chalk, markers, crayons, and paint. I like that I can easily remove all of it when he's not using the table so there's less chance of writing on the wall. We were going to attach a roll of easel paper, but I felt like it would get in the way, so instead I bought a Crayola easel paper pad. The sheets are pretty much the perfect size for the tabletop and half the cost of the Melissa and Doug pad.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: start;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
After: robot chairs with plexi</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoAidwKe0FfrklL9D4MWvbGemnuAMqYQvZxMpU20ZRvagYWgIBQgeoeVxZIj3ur1EycU8zuWk-2DuUE67DIbOLfFzZoURkuSLIpW0pvX2bG0Xf9eKNWj5z1eo9lAE3ahSZirFjZyizdAA-/s1600/IMG_9744.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoAidwKe0FfrklL9D4MWvbGemnuAMqYQvZxMpU20ZRvagYWgIBQgeoeVxZIj3ur1EycU8zuWk-2DuUE67DIbOLfFzZoURkuSLIpW0pvX2bG0Xf9eKNWj5z1eo9lAE3ahSZirFjZyizdAA-/s1600/IMG_9744.JPG" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
I LOVE how it turned out! Josh did a great job painting it and putting it all together. I can't wait til he gets up Christmas morning and sees this. He loves sitting in chairs his size and each trip to Ikea, he runs right up to the table and sits down.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2uOkZwnTeCph-cXoBfNOFkFFdTvWU14AZXDBBz2hy8eNw7mI0nWYcZXg1KnX12yh_kOqfmf_ipS98_tHa2ag2MQKjbc0_0oDUdPGfHXWZy_tJi_yxYtqiN_hF6WDAUfESb3ZH8wrVjaSH/s1600/IMG_9745.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2uOkZwnTeCph-cXoBfNOFkFFdTvWU14AZXDBBz2hy8eNw7mI0nWYcZXg1KnX12yh_kOqfmf_ipS98_tHa2ag2MQKjbc0_0oDUdPGfHXWZy_tJi_yxYtqiN_hF6WDAUfESb3ZH8wrVjaSH/s1600/IMG_9745.JPG" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
It ended up costing probably around $75 after all materials so it wasn't super cheap, but it was still less than any I saw elsewhere and it's got more features and it's personalized. The highest cost was the plexiglass so you could save around $20 by skipping that. If you do decide to do the plexi, go to Lowes. They'll cut it to size for you, Home Depot said they wouldn't cut it for us.<br />

With 2 under 2 and a husband doing his MBA, everything takes way longer than it should. But, now her room is finally complete! Just in time for her to move up to her crib since she's just about outgrowing her bassinet.<br />
<br />
This post will be very picture heavy. I *think* I may have gone just a bit overboard when doing her room. But, <a href="http://sweetteetle.blogspot.com/2013/02/nursery-tour.html">Ethan's</a> was so much fun that hers had to match and well, it's the room I would have loved to have as a kid. It's totally girly, fun, bright, and unique. I bounced around a ton of different ideas, then I found the unicorn fabric and knew I found the right theme. I mixed in chevrons, polka dots, and hearts to keep it from being too unicorn themed.<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Since we couldn't paint the room, I had to do lots of color elsewhere. This vinyl decal was an amazing custom design from <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/WallDecalSource">WallDecalSource</a>. I messaged them and we combined 3 of their designs to come up with this. I LOVE how it turned out and they were great to work with. </div>

The glider is the <a href="http://sweetteetle.blogspot.com/2013/02/glider-recover.html">same one</a> we recovered for Ethan's room. My mom saved the pattern and made me another set of slipcovers with the chevron print. I added the pom poms over it to give her something to look at while nursing. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My mom made the pennant banner and my husband helped with the bow holders (I'll post the before/after in another post). I found the unicorn seat at Marshall's on clearance and the toy bin at Home Goods. This is my fave part of the room. </div>

This area just makes me happy. We bought the dresser used and it was a light pink/gray combo. Josh and his dad re-painted it and added a hanging bar for me. This is her dresser for all the "fancy" clothes. The unicorn stand I bought a few years ago, but we painted it purple and added glitter spray paint. I keep her fancier bows on there. The princess bin holds the elastic to mix and match the plain bows. </div>

Yup, I totally went a overboard in her room, but I absolutely love it. So all the work was worth it. I still love Ethan's room after almost 2 years and I'm sure I'll feel the same about hers. Ethan loves his room (robot was one of his first words), I hope she loves hers. A lot of love went into making everything. Once again, a HUGE thank you goes out to my amazingly talented mama for making so much in here! Without her, there's no way either of them would have such awesome rooms. I reused a lot of items that I already owned throughout the room, just added some spray paint when needed. </div>

<br /></div>
Since moving to Tx 2 years ago, I've barely done any crafts. I never really got around to unpacking my craft room and rarely had the time/energy with having a new baby and then getting pregnant again. So, when my friend, Tiffany, asked if I could make a set of letters for her new baby's room, I was excited for the excuse to finally break out the supplies.<br />
<br />
I made her daughter's nursery letters 3 years ago so I was honored she asked me to make them again. These were her daughter's.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

This time, she was having a boy and the theme was airplanes. Soo adorable right?! She sent a picture of the bedding and I went to work looking for paper/embellishments. Well, apparently airplane stuff is not easy to find in scrapbooking supplies unless it's military related or travel related. They were going for more of a vintage airplane theme. I even tried online stores with no luck. Then I randomly decided to check Etsy since I was already on there shopping for baby stuff.</div>
<br />
I came across the perfect paper on Etsy! The colors were a match for the bedding and they had vintage airplanes. <a href="https://www.etsy.com/transaction/215294516">This</a> is the paper pack I bought. It's from <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/DewDropDigitals?ref=l2-shopheader-name">DewDropsDigital</a>. It's a digital paper pack so I had to find somewhere to get it printed. I can't remember the site I ordered the paper from, but I wouldn't recommend them. The solid pages came out streaky and the quality wasn't great. I solved that problem by distressing the letters and covering any flaws with embellishments.<br />
<br />
I was kinda worried that I could make it work since it was so difficult finding things to fit the theme, but after getting started, I think I was able to pull it all together. Here's the letters hanging in his adorable airplane nursery.<br />

<br />
I kept the letters with the airplane paper very simple so I didn't take away from the print. I just added a few rub ons. On the solids and the stripe, I added some metal airplanes, twine, and dimensionals stickers with a baby/nursery theme. Hopefully they love them! I was so happy to get my mod podge out again and I need to find more time to get in there and make things.<br />

I originally planned on pink and blue for her room and came across these adorable DIY lamps at <a href="http://www.gingersnapcrafts.com/2014/04/ruffled-lamp-shade-with-led-power.html?m=1">Ginger Snap Crafts</a>. I pinned them and, like most things on Pinterest, I forgot about them.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
When I couldn't find any inexpensive lamps that matched in her room, I remembered those cute ruffle lamps and set out to Big Lots to see if they had some simple lamps like I got for <a href="http://sweetteetle.blogspot.com/2013/02/robot-lamps.html">Ethan's nursery</a>. Luckily, it was back to school time so they had all their dorm room stuff out. We got both for $24 since I had a 20% off coupon. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiO57nzcORaaP-i8WH8Ypxv9epwDo4TVSy-0D6ZPTlew5tQwkgF-ejarnOx0yRAF-AzjZubqJA9qEgPFyuOHA039GW0umqG1cWE0abjnseU7ZBucjmFP4Q9Bqs_QF0bFqsaFuHp0GoYpQXM/s640/blogger-image-968740611.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiO57nzcORaaP-i8WH8Ypxv9epwDo4TVSy-0D6ZPTlew5tQwkgF-ejarnOx0yRAF-AzjZubqJA9qEgPFyuOHA039GW0umqG1cWE0abjnseU7ZBucjmFP4Q9Bqs_QF0bFqsaFuHp0GoYpQXM/s640/blogger-image-968740611.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<div>
Then I went to hobby lobby for the ribbon. They were 50% off so $2 per color. I started with a roll each of hot pink, purple, and white. Then we just got to work with a glue gun.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFh9roLN_vP4-jZLFpGTlPOCYgOqMu3RxmzgWWr723SLJeXK9lgc37r3vBloReNAJdb9fdw29XFxuIUUlaiR6i-TirQmf_XYf6jb7L3Rts-KGUyylDD3DGzmq6LRrDkaqyQSY7WQ0TOoCx/s640/blogger-image-952856551.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFh9roLN_vP4-jZLFpGTlPOCYgOqMu3RxmzgWWr723SLJeXK9lgc37r3vBloReNAJdb9fdw29XFxuIUUlaiR6i-TirQmf_XYf6jb7L3Rts-KGUyylDD3DGzmq6LRrDkaqyQSY7WQ0TOoCx/s640/blogger-image-952856551.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
After looking at it for a few days, I decided it was too much white in the middle. Since I couldn't start over, I ran out and got a light pink to add. It's kinda squeezed in since there wasn't space left, but I think it looks more complete with the white being separated. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZrWN5oX4RGiqkc0UI1_XEcdUXSwMvVZCPy_B441ypbUfpc2MEqGRs9zqvUyFE5qmyhaEpKM5-ApIVsI5AHAS09oqu2pxljBpNSlHoJU5ZeonpPs9pnPX3rYK-NVq53isa6R_LVy1-ah3G/s640/blogger-image-1301326266.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZrWN5oX4RGiqkc0UI1_XEcdUXSwMvVZCPy_B441ypbUfpc2MEqGRs9zqvUyFE5qmyhaEpKM5-ApIVsI5AHAS09oqu2pxljBpNSlHoJU5ZeonpPs9pnPX3rYK-NVq53isa6R_LVy1-ah3G/s640/blogger-image-1301326266.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Here's a pic with them on. Love how they turned out. They're bright and girly. And for $22 per lamp ($30 + $8 in ribbon + $6 in hot glue) they were much more affordable than any other options I saw. </div>

I think it was too cold upstairs (Texas fall weather is just as unpredictable). He did not wake up happy. It was a chore just getting him downstairs for breakfast. None of the usual tricks were cheering him up and he ended up making a huge mess of his meal.<div><br></div><div>I tried just about every toy, his fave animal sound video, motorcycle videos, music and dancing, but he was having none of it. I almost decided to skip meeting Josh for lunch for Veterans Day. </div><div><br></div><div>Then, just like that, he was back to sweet toddler. So I got them both dressed and into the car. He was great at lunch eating like a champ. We got home and played some more and he was still good.</div><div><br></div><div>Then came the absolute adorableness. I took him up for his nap and since Emma was happy in her swing (rare at naptime), I took the time to lay in the lounger with him first. He pulled open my cardigan so he could snuggle in close to me. Then he gave me sweet pats on my arm and back while "singing" to me. He was going ahh ahh ahh softly in time with the music. </div><div><br></div><div>It was the sweetest thing ever and totally made up for the terror he was all morning. I swear this kid knows how to make me forget about how bad he can behave sometimes. He's totally a sour patch kid: first he's sour, then he's cute.</div><div><br></div>teetle81http://www.blogger.com/profile/00508855760153691316noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5670105810045342582.post-85797451045392993102014-08-22T11:25:00.000-05:002014-08-22T11:25:11.728-05:00Aveeno review<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
I was sent the Aveeno Positively Radiant Targeted Tone Corrector to try out thanks to <a href="https://www.influenster.com/">Influenster</a>. I love Aveeno lotions, but have never really tried any of their other products. I also have never tried a tone corrector.<br /><br />The product claims to help fade dark spots and uneven tone. I wanted to use it for a few weeks before reviewing to see if I noticed any difference. Overall, I didn't notice any change. Luckily, I don't really have any dark spots, but I do have some uneven skin tone where areas are redder.<br /><br />While it didn't really live up to it's claims for me, it did feel smooth going on. It wasn't sticky like some products and it has a nice, light scent. I used it both morning and night and it didn't affect makeup at all. I was worried at first that it would make makeup more cake-y, but it didn't.<br />
<br />
Most of the reviews on it are pretty positive in regards to fading dark spots so if this is something you struggle with, I'd say it's still worth a try since it's only around $15. It may just be better at that than fixing the skin tone unevenness.<br />

It's hard to believe E was just a little baby so recently when he seems so grown up now. On one hand, it feels like we just had him, but on the other I can't even picture our lives without him.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">He's always been in a hurry to get out of each baby stage. He was over his swing/bouncer by about 2.5 months, started crawling early, and quickly swapped to walking. He's always trying to grow up too fast for us. There are only about 2 things he does that are "baby" like: snuggling with his teddy bear and wanting to hold our hands when walking. He is soo happy when he gets to hold both mine and J's hands and will walk with his little hand outstretched until he has us both. It's the cutest thing ever. He's fearless and confident the rest of the time always in a rush to try new things and push himself.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">The everyday things that E does constantly surprise me. It's amazing how much kids learn and change in such a short amount of time. Our morning starts out with him (usually) happily babbling and talking to his teddy bear, then downstairs for breakfast. In the last week he's added his first "chore" because he'll feed the dog while I make him breakfast. Then we have play time until lunch/nap. E loves to pull every toy out normally, so we've started a system where we have things organized by type and he can't pull out more until we put the other away. The first few weeks were rough since he didn't understand really, but in the last week, he's already starting to help me put the toys away. Don't get me wrong, he's still a toddler so it's far from perfect. Some days there's still toys everywhere, but it's a work in progress and I'm trying to teach him good habits now.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">When he's hungry, instead of just getting crabby, he now says "unch" for lunch (doesn't matter what meal lol) and heads to the gate at the kitchen. He's still eating pretty good, but goes through stages now we're he won't eat much. I think it has to do with teething since he's getting a ton of teeth lately. When it's time for bed, we say ready for bed and he heads up the stairs to the bathroom (for vitamins and teeth brushing). When he wants to go outside, he brings us his shoes and says bye bye. Now if he could only learn to listen when I saw "no"...</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">It's so weird to really be communicating with him. All his new words are adorable and his understanding of us is incredible. It's so cool to see someone who a little over a year ago couldn't do anything on his own become so smart and independent. I can't wait to see how he handles having a baby sister. And hopefully she isn't in as big of a rush to grow up as he is. Since she'll likely be our last, she needs to take her time.</span><br />

Some days (like yesterday) go super smoothly. Lots of playing and having fun and happiness. Then there are days (like today) that are completely exhausting. E has been a crazy jumble of chaos today. If there's a way to get into things, he will.<br />
<br />
This is partially my fault. After a breakfast of eggs, I gave him 2 mini donuts. He doesn't usually have sweets in the morning so I'm gonna blame the sugar.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
So far today he has: cleaned out the toilet with the scrub brush (I'm usually really good at keeping the bathroom door closed), gone in the closet to grab an umbrella and try to bash the tv and speaker, threw a tantrum because I took away the umbrella before he could break anything, tried to lift his ride on motorcycle onto the entertainment center, ripped his diaper off, dumped my water on the carpet, climbed all over the furniture, unhooked the bottom of the baby gate, and reached over the gate to grab the lid off the trash to put on his head. All of this as I'm right next to him...that kid is quick (well and I'm slow right now with only 6 weeks left to go).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjng5sNcOoHRIexhIgcFaOxmxAm8TEH801zauGMTf3xmaCmGuI-b5sElP0b31URozWQonNlewLafpBNsnx_oSma2Pu1GX7P5rMB1hHuLlmCjmvnG-VhxGmUHr6FJwLuiBmTmcIC2zOG6aP1/s1600/photo+2+%25283%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjng5sNcOoHRIexhIgcFaOxmxAm8TEH801zauGMTf3xmaCmGuI-b5sElP0b31URozWQonNlewLafpBNsnx_oSma2Pu1GX7P5rMB1hHuLlmCjmvnG-VhxGmUHr6FJwLuiBmTmcIC2zOG6aP1/s1600/photo+2+%25283%2529.JPG" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
This looks like a good hat.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
And this is just what I can remember. He's full of energy and mischief. We've also done multiple somersaults and played basketball to try to wear off some of this energy, but he's still running around in circles. Normally, I would take him to the park or outside, but it's WAY too hot for that. Or I would take him to an indoor play place, but as luck would have it, his carseat is in pieces since he threw up in it last night. (Note to self: no yogurt before swim class). I'm thinking once J gets home, I'll put the carseat back together and take him to open gym class at WinKids. I would do it during nap time, but I think I'll need a nap too.<br />

I say this all the time, but it's a good thing he's cute. I can only imagine the kind of chaos the new baby will add to the mix. Can't wait for the craziness. </div>

My dad hasn't been in my life for quite awhile so it just came and went. But, last year I finally got to really celebrate Father's Day since we finally had our little one. </span></div><div><br></div><div>I'm so grateful that our E has such an amazing dad. Before we had him, J had only held a baby maybe once in his life for about 5 min where he was too scared I move. So he was definitely nervous about becoming a dad and afraid he was going to somehow break him. But once the little guy was here, he quickly became a natural. </div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqIgMkzfWtr-68E3dsvkGZmZR3R4SL7LWFeRxekfwfLNRqwBlPd_gWuHXvTLsfwL7qA_iDyUPLiKb-UlaSRQxgzpLs6R11isIwRjJuzPJdl3t6IoltYA26uXqxtC7-t22XgfN8vHA5Q8TB/s640/blogger-image-491883777.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqIgMkzfWtr-68E3dsvkGZmZR3R4SL7LWFeRxekfwfLNRqwBlPd_gWuHXvTLsfwL7qA_iDyUPLiKb-UlaSRQxgzpLs6R11isIwRjJuzPJdl3t6IoltYA26uXqxtC7-t22XgfN8vHA5Q8TB/s640/blogger-image-491883777.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Their first pic together remains one of my all time faves. It shows how he instantly became a dad, totally in love with his kid. He seems so at ease holding him.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Not only is he an awesome dad, but he's supportive of me and helps with all the parenting decisions we make along the way. He embraced babywearing and wore E just about everywhere til he started walking. When I suggested baby led weaning, he let us give it a try even though it kinda freaked him out. He was my rock through the early struggles with breastfeeding and he's the calm one to tell me everything will be ok when I have those normal mama worries.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZetxNbc8JfgesfyUUrUvLMhqSjTUFck-koPuXZssIHZ0wWYmL5G8P2cEETbZWFdSBUMwy5FC-d-yvc0A7JPpIqkx54zPyrhfx98SJtWLtWimn6j1o8tleKypNGJMHRU1TG6K0KHlp7TXn/s640/blogger-image-435546018.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZetxNbc8JfgesfyUUrUvLMhqSjTUFck-koPuXZssIHZ0wWYmL5G8P2cEETbZWFdSBUMwy5FC-d-yvc0A7JPpIqkx54zPyrhfx98SJtWLtWimn6j1o8tleKypNGJMHRU1TG6K0KHlp7TXn/s640/blogger-image-435546018.jpg"></a></div><br></div>Even though he's a super busy dad with a full time job and going to school full time, he takes every chance he gets to spend quality daddy/son time together. It normally lasts 2 weeks to a month so I usually use this as an excuse to go see family. Neither of our parents live anywhere close to us so it makes sense that since he'll be gone, we might as well get some family time for the little guy. Well, that may come to an end after the last 2 trips. Unfortunately, he is so used to his room and routine at home, that the change completely throws him off. He seems to have a harder time adjusting with each trip.<br />
<br />
The hardest part is his sleep. He has barely been sleeping at all and nothing seems to help. He's only been sleeping maybe 8 hrs a night instead of his usual 11-12 and his napping is almost non existent. He only napped about 30-40min today. Not nearly enough. Even with that little bit of sleep, he wouldn't go to bed tonight. I think a big part of it is that he's just more aware now. He's used to his dad doing his bedtime routine and I'm sure now he realizes that his dad isn't here. So, he's extra attached to me like he's afraid I'm going to leave also. He's NEVER been the type of baby who wants to sleep in bed with us. We've tried co sleeping a few times and he has wanted absolutely nothing to do with it. But, the last few days, he can't/won't sleep unless he's in bed with me. And the second I move or get up, he freaks out.<br /><br />Obviously, this lack of sleep ends up with a super cranky baby. During the morning and early afternoon nothing makes him happy. Luckily, by around 4ish he starts to deal and get happier. But it's making for a super stressed out me. I haven't really gotten any time to myself. Normally, I have a few hours after he goes to bed and nap times to get things done. The mornings and afternoons are the hardest since I'm exhausted and just want him to take a nap and he's unhappy. At night, he totally makes up for it and is super duper adorable though and it makes me feel so bad for being frustrated with him during the day. Each night, he holds on to me tight, smiles at me, stares into my eyes like he's trying to tell me something, and "sings" along with the bedtime music.<br /><br />Hopefully as the days go on, he'll get a bit more used to being in a new place, but I'm not getting my hopes up. This is gonna be a long 3 weeks and I can't wait until the hubster is back so we can get back to normal.teetle81http://www.blogger.com/profile/00508855760153691316noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5670105810045342582.post-22842123345427306952014-04-23T13:36:00.002-05:002014-04-23T13:36:35.523-05:00Fun on the farm<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

This morning we went on a field trip to Homestead Farms in Keller with the NISD Family Involvement program. I've never heard of Homestead Farms and I've probably passed by it about a dozen times. It's definitely hidden away if you don't know what you're looking for. Ethan LOVES his books and youtube videos with animals so I figured he'd enjoy going.<br />
<br />
When we first got there, as usual, he was pretty overwhelmed by all the people and so much going on. He kinda stood back and took it all in. But then he saw the chickens and went running over trying to make little chicken noises. He spent a lot of time just watching them, until we noticed there were little baby chicks and we got to hold one.<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
They had an area where kids could plant a seed. He just wanted to play with the shovel and dirt so I let him get dirty for a little while before we headed over to see the goats. As usual, he got distracted by anything with wheels. He saw the tractor and went running for it, then tried to pull it.<br />

At first he was a little scared of the goats and kept hiding by me and wanting to be held, esp when they'd come really close to him to say hi. But once we got over by the smaller baby goats, he got a bit more comfortable. He kept pointing and squealing and even ended up petting them. I loved seeing his smiles as they would pop their heads out.</div>

When we were getting ready to head out, we saw the hayride was about to start so we decided we might as well do that too. It was only $1 a piece so why not? Make sure you bring some singles with you so you can take a ride around the farm. He wasn't too into the hayride since he's so little, but it gave us a nice break to sit down and chat with other moms.<br />
<br />
The farm also has a bunch of goodies to buy. This is always a fave for me since you get to try different things and support local businesses. The farm itself has goats milk, fruits/veggies, and meats. But they also have stuff from other vendors in the area too, like local honey, granola, salsas and jams. My fave was "In a Pickle" foods. They had a booth so you could try samples first-always a plus. We loved every kind we tried, but ended up buying the Apple Bourbon Cinnamon and the Lemony Pear Vanilla Bean since they were soo delicious and they had unique flavors. I also got a jar of sweet and spicy pickles for Josh. When I was checking out the store, I also grabbed some Chipolte Corn Salsa from Renfro foods for Josh. He loves his salsa.<br />

We only ended up staying for about an hour, but we had a blast. I loved seeing him warm up to the animals and experience something new. We've taken him to the zoo a few times, but he was really little and didn't really know about animals yet. Also loved getting to meet some new people and getting some new treats from local places. I'm so glad we found out about the NISD program since it's getting Ethan used to other kids and learning with hands on play.<br /><br />Here's a link to <a href="http://homestead-farms.net/">Homestead Farms</a><br />

He sleeps in, we have good meals, we're all smiling and happy everywhere we go, etc. <div><br></div><div>The last 2 days have been the easy days. He slept in (til 10 today!), we had lunch, did errands all over while without complaints, we danced through the store, we played at the park and the backyard, he took naps like a champ, and went to bed quickly. These are all amazing things to me since most days rarely seem this easy. </div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxV9rnoXiDM9Ui2zCjvu8XN_e4blkFMCtZUSZ6tw25o98HNLXNX53t-5NgfcbxWjMVrlUplgUMkv4P4IjBqrBYtX6F8NYLIxwCQa86Xxx45ZGPaeLl7QKVAlwasuE2lhnKAIUowcG1iL1j/s640/blogger-image-660598015.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxV9rnoXiDM9Ui2zCjvu8XN_e4blkFMCtZUSZ6tw25o98HNLXNX53t-5NgfcbxWjMVrlUplgUMkv4P4IjBqrBYtX6F8NYLIxwCQa86Xxx45ZGPaeLl7QKVAlwasuE2lhnKAIUowcG1iL1j/s640/blogger-image-660598015.jpg"></a></div></div><div>Errands can be fun some days!</div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjc0phgRJZAIDAIcYOWJNPqvqQQ7Om7p1AA91g_ipZIIJ1E93psAQlV7gjunBAmDbhBgV9dmIBgoTXQ1sjbCdMLU41qTxzqpLp1xXsMv1CTitpr2znkh7q7Vw6kuMiVRmRwJyMfI35nYYEq/s640/blogger-image--1529463827.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjc0phgRJZAIDAIcYOWJNPqvqQQ7Om7p1AA91g_ipZIIJ1E93psAQlV7gjunBAmDbhBgV9dmIBgoTXQ1sjbCdMLU41qTxzqpLp1xXsMv1CTitpr2znkh7q7Vw6kuMiVRmRwJyMfI35nYYEq/s640/blogger-image--1529463827.jpg"></a></div>Swings and smiles</div><div><br></div><div>These are the days that make me think, hey maybe I'm not so crazy to be having another one soon. <span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">Now that it's been a year since little man was born and pretty soon we'll be giving birth to #2, I've been reflecting on the beginning days of parenthood. It was a scary, uncertain time trying to navigate this whole new world.</span></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
My biggest fear was breastfeeding. It's so hard to not know if your child is getting enough milk since you don't see it and can't measure it. The first pediatrician we went to pretty much preyed in that new mom fear of mine. From the second we walked in and Ethan was fussy, he was like if it's a feeding time, I guess you can feed him, I won't watch or anything. Maybe he was trying to make me feel more comfortable? But it just made me feel awkward. I wasn't worried that you'd "watch". I'm not doing something sexual, I'm feeding my child and you are a medical professional. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Then he said he'd lost too much weight and wasn't getting enough milk and we should give him formula. Before I really had time to process, he'd come back in with a sample of formula ready to go. Being scared and worried I'd been starving my child, we of course gave it to him. He recommended we nurse every 2hrs (15min each side) plus supplement with one oz of formula after each feeding. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The first thing I did after getting home was contact a lactation consultant and set up an appt. Then I went in our bedroom and cried. I felt like a failure and a horrible mom. Thank god my husband was able to calm me down and support me. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The weekend of nursing went ok. I kept a log and tracked everything. But it was wearing on me to basically be non stop feeding based on the dr's schedule. By the time I was done with the 30min of nursing and then the bottle, I'd have about an hr before it was time to start again. And needless to say, Ethan wasn't big on nursing since he was probably being overfed at that point.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
When I called to update on Monday, it was a horrible experience. I told the dr he was nursing and having enough wet diapers and I could see he was getting milk. He asked if I felt a letdown and I was like no, but I see the milk and can hear him swallowing. Then he said "you know it's not a big deal to switch to formula if you want to". Now I was angry. I'd made it clear I wanted to breastfeed, I told him I could see him getting milk, and he was well hydrated and yet he's basically trying to convince me to switch?!? Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against formula or those who choose to do it, but I wanted to BF. He said if I'm not feeling a let down, I'm not producing enough. Once again, I found myself in tears feeling like a failure.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
At our next appt, Ethan gained about 2 lbs from his birth weight after a week. So I asked about stopping the supplementing and he still seemed against it. I had already started weaning him off it by only doing 1/2 the extra feedings. Thankfully at the LC appt, she weighed him before and after feeding and was able to tell he was definitely getting as much as he should and she said it was ok to stop the formula. So I stopped that day and went back the next week for a follow up weight where he was perfect.<br /><br />He continued to grow and thrive just fine without the formula. He was exclusively BF (except that one week) for 6 months until we started baby led weaning. We still managed to make it to one year of BFing. He was slowly weaned starting around 9-10 months where it was down to mostly naps (he was always too busy to want to take a break to nurse any other time). Then on his birthday, he magically was just done. He hasn't tried or gone back since then.<br /><br />While it was a crappy experience at the beginning and I feel like the supplementing not only hurt my supply, but also caused him to break out really bad that took about a month to go away, I'm somewhat happy that this happened. It made me more supportive of BFing and other moms who are struggling and it caused me to read just about everything I could on it. I swear I read all of my LC's site and all of kellymom.com. I had tons of worry still, but reading those helped me realize I wasn't alone in my fears and learn what was "normal". It also taught me to trust my mommy instincts and not always just listen to what the dr says. If I had listened to him I would have thought that I "didn't make enough milk". I'm sure he didn't expect me to stick to it and really try. We quickly got a new pediatrician who was supportive of BFing and never went back to the first.<br /><br />Now that I've gotten this vent out, hopefully I can get the mom guilt out of my head. I wanted to put this out there for anyone else that's had an un-supportive doctor or has struggled with BFing. Best thing I can recommend is to get a certified lactation consultant. It was worth every penny and then some. Mostly to give me the confidence that I was doing good, work on any latch issues, and see if there's anything that's making it harder. Then do research! Lots of research. It will prepare you for a response when well meaning people try to give you advice about how you feed them and it will give you the answers when you start questioning yourself.<br /></div>

So are dogs.Ethan's new thing while getting his diaper changed is to try to grab the diaper. Luckily, I'm quicker than he is. Josh apparently was not as prepared. Ethan not only got a hold of a poopy diaper, but pulled it all along his leg and up to his head. :( seriously, it was in his hair. As hubby is freaking out, calling me to come help, Ethan is full on belly laughing like it's the funniest thing he's ever done.<div><br></div><div>I'm so grossed out that I tell J to just take him up to the bath so I can clean up. Just when I think it hasn't been gross enough, the dog comes over and LICKS the diaper. OMG I was about to throw up already and that almost pushed me over the edge. So disgusting I wanted to cry.</div><div><br></div><div>I knew the day was going too smoothly. We *almost* made it with a nice, easy day until 20min before bedtime. </div><div><br></div><div><br></div>teetle81http://www.blogger.com/profile/00508855760153691316noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5670105810045342582.post-4469062241098030632014-03-07T11:19:00.002-06:002014-03-07T11:19:57.357-06:00Testing boundariesLittle man has been testing his boundaries (and my patience) more and more lately. It started small. He'd go to something he knew he shouldn't and would look to see if we were watching before trying to go for it. But now he's getting more bold. When he's doing something he shouldn't, I'll say no-no that's not for babies and redirect him to some toys. But this kid is stubborn! He keeps going back to it over and over no matter what toy I try to get him to play with.<br /><br />A lot of times he'll smile at me when I say no thinking if he's cute, I'll give in. Sorry kid. But yesterday he was really trying things out to see what he could get away with. After lots of redirection, he decided to go to thing he shouldn't be playing with (the receiver for the TV-he loves to turn up the volume) and rather than actually go for it, he put his hand near it, looked at me and smiled. Then he slowly kept putting his hand closer while watching me. I was like are you serious?! This little 1 yr old is too smart for his own good sometimes.<br />
<br />
He's also learning the art of fake crying in the hopes to get what he wants. And tantrum throwing. Heaven help me when the 2s and 3s come. The hardest part is not laughing when he does these things. It takes a lot to keep from giggling because he looks so funny when he is standing there smiling, trying to get away with things. E is definitely a very determined child.<br />

Mean mama wouldn't let him eat paper. Meltdown ensues. Stops when he realizes I'm still not gonna let him eat paper. </div>
